Shipping operations

The systems and steps used to prepare and move goods to recipients.

Shipping operations are the systems and workflows used to prepare goods for delivery, label packages, update inventory, and hand shipments to carriers or internal transport teams. In many organizations, these functions depend on warehouse software, order management tools, barcode scanners, printers, and integrations with logistics providers.

In cyber security, shipping operations matter because they sit between digital business systems and physical delivery. If attackers disrupt them, orders can pile up, labels may not print, inventory records can desynchronize, and staff may be forced into manual workarounds. That makes shipping a common target for ransomware, credential theft, and other attacks that aim to cause operational downtime rather than obvious data loss. Defenders reduce risk by segmenting warehouse systems, testing fallback procedures, protecting integrations, and monitoring for abnormal changes in order queues, shipment status, or device availability.
