A shareable link is a URL that lets someone open a document, file, or chat without a direct invitation. It usually works by embedding access in the link itself, or by pointing to content that the service has made publicly reachable. In collaboration tools, this is convenient because a user can hand the same link to multiple people instead of managing separate permissions.
In cyber security, shareable links matter because they can widen access far beyond the intended audience. If the link is forwarded, posted on a public page, or discovered by a crawler, the content may become searchable or accessible to anyone who has the URL. Defenders reduce this risk with expiring links, revocation, viewer authentication, least-privilege sharing, and audit logs. A shareable link should be treated as publishable content, not as a private message.
