Session correlation is the process of linking requests that belong to the same user, device, bot, or workflow across time, IP changes, cookies, API keys, headers, or other identifiers. Security teams use it to see beyond isolated requests and reconstruct the larger pattern behind an interaction. That matters because many abusive campaigns try to look harmless by rotating identifiers, spreading traffic across infrastructure, or splitting work into many small actions.
In cyber security, session correlation helps detect distributed automation, credential abuse, scraping, and coordinated misuse that simple rate limits may miss. Defenders combine logs, tokens, timing, browser fingerprints, and behavior signals to tie activity together and spot low-and-slow attacks. In attacks, automation may deliberately reset sessions or use many cloud hosts to evade per-session quotas. In defenses, strong correlation supports risk scoring, anomaly detection, account protection, and investigation by showing when many “different” requests are actually part of one operation.
