A semi-automated process is a workflow that uses software to handle repetitive steps while a person makes the important decisions. In cyber security, this often means tools collect data, filter alerts, or run checks, and an analyst reviews the results before action is taken. The human input matters when context, uncertainty, or risk is high.
This approach is common in both defense and attack. Security teams use semi-automated processes for alert triage, malware analysis, phishing review, and incident response so they can work faster without losing judgment. Attackers also use them, for example by automating scans or message sending while a human selects targets, tunes payloads, or interprets results. The main benefit is efficiency; the main risk is trusting automation too much.
