A SaaS portfolio is the full set of cloud applications and subscriptions an organization uses to run business functions, such as email, file sharing, sales, HR, and analytics. In security terms, it is not just a list of tools: it is the organization’s cloud attack surface.
A large SaaS portfolio can create account sprawl, duplicate data, weak offboarding, overbroad OAuth grants, and hidden third-party integrations. Attackers often target these services through stolen credentials, phishing, token theft, or abuse of approved integrations rather than direct server exploitation. Defenders manage the portfolio by maintaining an inventory, enforcing SSO and MFA, reviewing permissions, removing unused apps, and checking vendor risk. Good portfolio control reduces exposure, limits lateral movement, and helps ensure that every subscription has a clear business owner and security justification.
