Run control

The configuration record that defines how a PeopleSoft process should execute.

In PeopleSoft, a run control is the configuration record that tells a process what to do and how to do it. It can define parameters such as report dates, business units, output options, or other execution settings, and it is usually tied to a specific user and process.

Run controls matter in cyber security because they shape process behavior. If an attacker, insider, or compromised account changes a run control, they may alter what data is processed, where output is sent, or how often a job runs. That can lead to data exposure, unauthorized actions, or silent business disruption without breaking the process itself. Defenders watch run control changes as part of configuration monitoring and access control. In real operations, a job may appear successful while the wrong run control causes it to execute with incorrect inputs, missed time windows, or unintended destinations. Auditing who created, modified, and submitted run controls helps teams detect misuse and preserve trust in batch processing.
