Review integrity is the reliability of user reviews, ratings, and endorsements on a public platform. It means the feedback is authentic, unmanipulated, and tied to real experience rather than bots, paid promotion, or coordinated abuse. In cyber security, review integrity matters because many decisions—what to buy, trust, or click—are driven by reputation signals that can be faked.
Attackers abuse weak review systems by creating fake accounts, using credential stuffing to hijack legitimate profiles, or running bot campaigns to inflate ratings and hide complaints. They may also post negative reviews to damage a competitor, a tactic that can support extortion or phishing by pushing users toward malicious alternatives. Defenses include identity checks, anomaly detection, rate limiting, moderation, and provenance signals that show when and how content was created. Strong review integrity helps users and security teams distinguish genuine feedback from manipulation.
