RESTORE

A Redis command that recreates a key from a serialized value.

RESTORE is a Redis command that recreates a key from serialized data. It is commonly used to move data between instances, reload backups, or rebuild keys after export. The server must parse the serialized value and reconstruct the original object in memory, which makes RESTORE a high-trust operation rather than a simple write command.

In security terms, that parsing step matters because malformed or unexpected input can stress memory handling and expose implementation bugs. Attackers who already have authenticated access may try to combine RESTORE with other commands or server-side features to increase impact, turning a logic or memory flaw into denial of service or even code execution. Defenders should treat RESTORE as a privileged command: limit it with ACLs, restrict network access, and patch Redis and any bundled components promptly. In practice, careful command scoping is as important as system patching.
