Reporting workflow

The internal process for triage, escalation, and submission of vulnerability or incident reports.

A reporting workflow is the internal process an organization uses to receive, triage, escalate, and submit vulnerability or incident reports. It defines who can open a report, how it is validated, who decides severity, and when legal, security, or compliance teams are notified.

In cyber security, a good workflow turns raw reports into action. It helps teams preserve evidence, avoid duplicate handling, meet disclosure deadlines, and coordinate responses across engineering and operations. For defenders, it is part of incident readiness: reports may come from researchers, monitoring tools, customers, or regulators, and each path needs clear ownership.

In real attacks and defense programs, reporting workflows matter when a flaw is found, an exploit is active, or a serious incident must be submitted to an authority or vendor. Weak workflows cause delays, missed escalation, and inconsistent notifications; strong workflows make response faster, auditable, and easier to prove under compliance regimes such as product-security rules.
