Remote exploit

An attack that can succeed over a network or wireless path without physical access to the device.

A remote exploit is code or a technique that lets an attacker trigger a vulnerability over a network, radio, or wireless link without touching the target device physically. The weakness may live in a browser, messaging service, Bluetooth stack, Wi-Fi component, or another remotely reachable interface. Because the attacker only needs connectivity, remote exploits are among the most dangerous classes of bugs.

In cyber security, remote exploits matter because they can bypass perimeter assumptions: a fully updated device may still be vulnerable if an unknown flaw exists in exposed software. Defenders look for them in patching, attack-surface reduction, segmentation, and secure configurations that disable unnecessary services. Researchers also use remote exploit demonstrations in controlled testing to prove that a flaw is real and to help vendors build fixes before criminals can use it.
