A release track is a distribution channel that separates testing builds from public production releases. Software platforms use tracks such as internal testing, closed beta, open beta, and production so developers can control who sees a build and when it is promoted.
In cyber security, release tracks matter because they define trust boundaries. A test track may have weaker visibility, different review rules, or limited monitoring, which attackers can try to abuse to hide deceptive apps, ship risky code, or delay scrutiny. Defenders use track separation to reduce exposure, enforce policy, and verify that only approved builds reach end users. Security teams should treat any pre-release track as untrusted until the developer, permissions, metadata, and behavior are checked.
