Refrigeration Controller

A device that regulates temperature, defrost timing, and alarms in commercial cooling systems.

A refrigeration controller is an industrial control device that manages cooling equipment by regulating temperature setpoints, compressor behavior, defrost timing, and alarm conditions. In commercial environments such as supermarkets, warehouses, and cold storage rooms, it keeps products within safe temperature ranges and helps operators detect faults before food spoils.

In cybersecurity, refrigeration controllers matter because they are operational technology: if an attacker changes settings, blocks alarms, or disrupts remote management, the result can be physical loss rather than stolen data. Common risks include weak passwords, exposed remote access, unsegmented networks, and vulnerable firmware. Defenders reduce exposure by restricting who can change setpoints, isolating control networks, logging configuration changes, and monitoring for unusual defrost cycles, telemetry gaps, or sudden temperature drift.
