Real-time enforcement

Security control that acts immediately when a risky action is attempted.

Real-time enforcement is a security control that reacts the moment a risky action is attempted, instead of waiting for a later scan, audit, or incident review. It can warn the user, block the action, or require extra approval before the request continues.

This matters because many security failures happen at the point of use: a password is entered into the wrong site, a confidential file is uploaded to an unsanctioned service, or sensitive text is pasted into a public AI tool. In those cases, delay reduces the value of the control. A browser extension, email gateway, DLP system, or endpoint agent can enforce policy in real time by inspecting the content and context of the action as it happens. Defenders use this to prevent accidental data leakage and stop policy violations before information leaves the organization. Attackers also face real-time enforcement when their payloads are blocked by sandboxing, URL filtering, or execution controls.
