Rack-scale system

A tightly integrated AI server design built around many GPUs, CPUs, memory pools, and high-speed interconnects.

A rack-scale system is a tightly integrated AI server platform that spreads work across many GPUs, CPUs, memory pools, and high-speed interconnects inside one coordinated rack. Instead of treating each server as a separate machine, the rack behaves like a single large compute unit, with shared scheduling, pooled memory, and fast links between components.

In cyber security, this design matters because it concentrates power and complexity. A single weak point in management firmware, orchestration software, storage, or the fabric can affect a large amount of compute at once. Attackers may target remote administration interfaces, exposed APIs, or misconfigured networks to gain control, steal data, or disrupt service. Defenders need strong identity controls, network segmentation, secure boot, patching, logging, and careful isolation between tenants or workloads. Rack-scale systems are efficient, but their scale also raises the impact of configuration mistakes and supply-chain risk.
