Quantum emulation

Classical simulation of quantum circuit behavior for testing and development.

Quantum emulation is the classical simulation of a quantum circuit on standard computers, often with GPU acceleration. It lets developers build, test, and validate quantum algorithms before running them on real quantum hardware. In practice, emulation helps teams inspect intermediate states, compare results, and debug workflows without needing access to a quantum processor.

In cyber security, quantum emulation matters because the data used for testing may be sensitive, proprietary, or regulated. Running locally or on-premise can reduce exposure to external cloud services, but it also shifts the trust boundary to the simulator environment, orchestration layer, logs, and storage. Defenders use emulation to evaluate code safely and keep control of data paths, while attackers could target poorly secured simulator infrastructure to steal research, inputs, or output data. Good access control, patching, and logging remain essential.
