Puzzle-solving is a form of gameplay or analysis that requires a person to infer missing information, sequence actions correctly, or manipulate elements into the right state to progress. In cyber security, the same skill describes how analysts and attackers reason through systems that do not reveal their logic openly.
It matters because many security tasks are essentially puzzles: defenders correlate logs, trace an intrusion path, decode obfuscated scripts, or reconstruct what happened from partial evidence. Attackers also use puzzle-solving when they probe for weak points, bypass authentication flows, or assemble multi-step exploits. In both cases, success depends on understanding relationships, timing, and hidden dependencies rather than brute force. Strong security design limits how easily an adversary can solve the puzzle, while good incident response helps defenders solve it faster.
