Purpose-built platform

A product created from the start to deliver a specific security or management function.

A purpose-built platform is a product engineered from the outset to perform one specific security or management job, rather than being adapted from a general-purpose tool. In cyber security, that often means the core architecture, policy engine, logging, and controls are designed together for a narrow use case such as browser security, endpoint containment, or identity enforcement.

This matters because security problems are often easier to solve when the control sits close to the risk. A purpose-built browser platform can enforce session rules, restrict data movement, and apply policy inside the browsing environment instead of bolting controls on afterward. That can reduce gaps that attackers exploit, such as bypassing weak add-ons or moving sensitive data through unmanaged sessions. The tradeoff is that specialized platforms may be more disruptive or harder to replace if requirements change.
