Pseudonymous

A system where an address or alias hides a user's real identity, but does not guarantee full anonymity.

Pseudonymous means a person or system uses an alias, account name, wallet address, or other identifier that is not their legal identity. The alias can hide a real-world name, but it does not provide full anonymity by itself. A pseudonym is a label, not a guarantee that activity cannot be linked back to someone.

In cyber security, pseudonymity matters because attackers often rely on handles, burner accounts, temporary email addresses, or cryptocurrency wallets to separate actions from identity. Defenders and investigators look for weak points in that separation, such as reused usernames, login timing, IP metadata, device fingerprints, or blockchain transaction patterns. The term is common in discussions of dark web markets, phishing kits, and crypto crime because these ecosystems often appear anonymous while still leaving traces that can be correlated across systems.
