Protocollo informatico is the digital protocol register used to record official documents when they enter a public administration. It assigns a unique entry, timestamp, and metadata, creating a traceable record of receipt and routing. In cyber security, this matters because trustworthy records are part of integrity: if a document can be shown to exist at a specific time and in a specific workflow, it is harder to deny, replace, or quietly alter.
In real defenses, protocol logs support audit trails, chain of custody, and verification that no document was lost, duplicated, or injected into the process. They are most effective when combined with access control, immutable logging, and proper classification and fascicolazione. In attacks, weaknesses in protocol management can be abused to hide missing filings, forge administrative continuity, or exploit fragmented workflows. A strong protocol register does not stop every attack, but it makes tampering easier to detect and later prove.
