PropTech

Technology used to digitize real estate activities such as listings, tenant onboarding, rent collection, and property management.

PropTech means property technology: software and connected services used to run real estate tasks such as listings, tenant onboarding, identity checks, rent collection, e-signatures, maintenance requests, and building management. Instead of a single website, a PropTech stack often combines APIs, cloud databases, payment processors, document services, and sometimes IoT devices like smart locks or sensors.

From a cybersecurity view, PropTech matters because it concentrates sensitive data and physical access in one workflow. A weakness in authentication, an exposed API, a misconfigured cloud bucket, or a compromised vendor can affect leases, payments, personal information, and building operations at the same time. Attackers may abuse account takeover, business email compromise, or malicious integrations to divert rent, steal documents, or unlock doors indirectly. Defenders should focus on strong identity controls, least-privilege access, audit logging, secure API design, vendor risk management, and device hardening. In PropTech, security is not only about protecting records; it is also about protecting trust and physical space.
