In cyber security, “proof” means material offered to support a claim, such as an alleged breach, data theft, or ransomware attack. It might include sample files, screenshots, system logs, or records of stolen data. A label saying “proof” does not establish that the material is genuine, complete, or connected to the named organization.
Attackers may publish claimed evidence to pressure victims, while defenders and investigators must verify its origin and meaning. They can compare samples with internal records, review authentication and network logs, and check whether exposed data is authentic and sensitive. Treat a proof claim as a reason to investigate—not as confirmation of compromise or its scope.
