Profile management

A browser feature that keeps bookmarks, passwords, history, and settings in separate user contexts.

Profile management is a browser feature that keeps bookmarks, passwords, history, extensions, and settings in separate user contexts. Each profile behaves like its own workspace, so a person can split work, personal, testing, or shared-use browsing on the same device. In enterprise environments, this helps reduce accidental cross-contamination of data and makes policy enforcement and troubleshooting more predictable.

From a security perspective, profiles are useful for limiting exposure, not for enforcing strong isolation. If malware runs with the same user privileges, it may still access data in any profile, and stolen credentials can be reused across them. Defenders use profiles to separate accounts, reduce extension sprawl, and keep risky browsing away from sensitive sessions. Attackers may try to abuse a neglected profile, a reused password store, or a synced profile to reach broader data. Good profile hygiene supports safer browsing, but it does not replace endpoint protection or access controls.
