A productivity baseline is the level of output or efficiency treated as normal for a person, team, or process. When a temporary gain—such as completing work faster with an AI assistant—becomes expected, the baseline rises. The gain may stop feeling like an improvement and instead become a performance requirement.
In cyber security, raised expectations can affect how teams review alerts, investigate incidents, and maintain controls. If faster automation leads to fewer staff or less time for checking results, errors and missed warning signs can become more likely. Defenders should measure quality as well as speed, keep clear review and escalation steps, and ensure workloads remain sustainable. A higher productivity baseline should not mean removing the human oversight needed to catch faulty outputs or respond to unusual threats.
