Product roadmap

The planned sequence of features, releases, or priorities for a product or platform.

A product roadmap is the planned sequence of features, releases, and priorities for a product or platform. It helps teams decide what to build next, what to delay, and which tradeoffs are acceptable when resources are limited.

In cyber security, the roadmap matters because it shapes how quickly security work is delivered. A strong roadmap includes patching, authentication improvements, logging, hardening, and response features alongside business functionality. When security is pushed off the roadmap, attackers can exploit unpatched flaws, weak defaults, or missing visibility. Defenders also use roadmaps to coordinate deprecation of risky features, schedule fixes, and align engineering, product, and operations around shared risk reduction. In practice, a roadmap is not just a planning document; it is a control over exposure.
