Process redesign

Reworking workflows so a new technology changes how work is done, not just how fast a task is repeated.

Process redesign means changing a workflow so a new tool alters how work is done, not just how quickly the same steps repeat. In cyber security, that usually means rethinking approvals, handoffs, logging, permissions, and exception handling before a new system goes live. A security tool or AI feature that is dropped into an old process often inherits the same weaknesses, such as excessive access, unclear ownership, or missing review points.

This matters because attackers often exploit broken workflows, not just broken software. If employees can bypass checks, approve outputs too easily, or rely on automated decisions without verification, a malicious prompt, phishing lure, or forged request can move further through the business. Good process redesign reduces that risk by adding human review where it matters, limiting privileges, and making actions traceable. Defenders also use it to turn security controls into repeatable operations instead of one-off alerts.
