Process readiness

The degree to which a workflow is standardized, consistent, and ready for automation or AI.

Process readiness is the degree to which a workflow is standardized, consistent, and prepared for automation or AI. A ready process has clear steps, defined ownership, stable inputs, and decision points that do not depend on informal tribal knowledge. In practice, that means the work can be repeated the same way with predictable results.

In cyber security, process readiness matters because security automation only works as well as the process behind it. If incident response, access approval, or patching is messy, tools such as SOAR platforms, AI triage, or automated ticketing can spread errors faster. Attackers benefit from poorly defined handoffs, inconsistent reviews, and exception-heavy workflows. Defenders improve readiness by documenting procedures, tightening controls, measuring outcomes, and keeping humans in the loop where judgment is essential.
