Process optimization

improving how a workflow uses resources and power.

Process optimization is the practice of improving how a workflow uses resources, including time, computing capacity, and power. In a technical environment, it means reducing unnecessary steps, balancing load, automating repetitive tasks, and tuning systems so they deliver the same output with less waste. This can apply to manufacturing, IT operations, and energy management.

In cyber security, process optimization matters because inefficient workflows often create weak points: overloaded servers, delayed patching, excessive permissions, and noisy monitoring systems that hide real threats. Defenders use optimization to make log collection faster, response playbooks cleaner, and security tooling less resource-heavy. Attackers also optimize, but for stealth and scale, by minimizing malware footprint, reusing infrastructure efficiently, or choosing the most economical path to a target. Strong optimization improves resilience, lowers costs, and makes abnormal behavior easier to spot.
