Procedural data is the collection of legal case records and related judicial information used in court proceedings, such as filings, schedules, evidence references, and case status details. Because it can reveal sensitive facts about people, witnesses, and ongoing cases, it must be protected with strict confidentiality and access control.
In cyber security, procedural data is valuable to attackers because exposure can enable privacy breaches, case manipulation, extortion, or targeted phishing against legal staff. It is also a high-risk input for AI tools: if records are copied into untrusted systems, they may be retained, leaked, or used outside approved workflows. Defenses rely on least-privilege access, segmentation, encryption, logging, and clear rules for who can view, export, or process the data. In courts and other legal institutions, strong controls help preserve both security and the integrity of judicial decisions.
