Private interconnection is a direct network path between an enterprise and a cloud provider, SaaS platform, or other service, bypassing the public internet. It is usually built through dedicated links, carrier exchanges, or cloud connectivity services that offer more predictable routing than normal internet traffic.
In cyber security, private interconnection matters because it can reduce latency, packet loss, and route instability while improving control over traffic flow. It also gives defenders better options for segmentation, access control, and monitoring of sensitive workloads such as AI systems or data pipelines. However, it is not automatically secure: traffic still needs encryption, identity checks, logging, and continuous observability. Attackers may still target the endpoints, credentials, or misconfigurations around the private link, so the defense value comes from combining private transport with strong policy and visibility.
