Privacy automation is the use of software workflows to carry out privacy and compliance tasks using a current inventory of data, systems, and access paths. Instead of relying only on manual reviews, a platform can detect where personal or sensitive data lives, classify it, map who can reach it, and trigger actions such as policy checks, masking, retention enforcement, or access reviews.
In cyber security, this matters because many breaches and compliance failures start with poor data visibility. If defenders do not know where regulated data is stored or how it moves, they cannot protect it well. Privacy automation turns discovery into action: a DSPM or security graph can feed context into controls that reduce exposure, flag risky sharing, and support audits. Attackers benefit from the same visibility gaps, so automated privacy workflows help shrink the attack surface and limit the impact of cloud, SaaS, and AI data sprawl.
