Prerender is a browser performance feature that loads a page the user is likely to visit next, usually in a hidden background state. If the user follows that navigation, the browser can display the prepared page more quickly.
Preparing a page involves running browser code and managing its memory before the user opens it. That extra work can introduce security risks, including memory-management bugs such as use-after-free errors. Attackers may try to exploit such flaws through crafted web content, though a vulnerability’s existence alone does not establish that it was exploited. Browser vendors patch these issues, while defenders should keep browsers updated and verify that managed devices run supported versions.
