A preorder is an advance purchase made before a product is released. In digital commerce, preorders are common for games, software, devices, and event access because they lock in demand and reserve entitlement before launch. For buyers, a preorder usually promises later delivery, early access, or a specific edition once the product becomes available.
In cyber security, preorders matter because they create a high-trust, high-urgency buying window that attackers can abuse. Criminals may copy official storefronts, send phishing emails about “limited” editions, or push fake payment pages to steal card data and login credentials. Defenders reduce risk by using verified domains, secure checkout, strong payment controls, clear entitlement records, and anti-phishing monitoring. In fraud cases, preorder systems also need checks for stolen cards, bot-driven bulk buying, and account takeover attempts.
