Precariato is a condition of unstable employment, where workers move through temporary contracts, uncertain renewal, and limited career progression. In cyber security, precarious staffing can weaken continuity: teams lose institutional memory, access reviews are delayed, and long-term hardening work is harder to sustain. Security depends not only on tools, but on people who know systems well enough to maintain them.
In real attacks, attackers can benefit from fragile work arrangements when onboarding and offboarding are rushed, temporary staff have broad access, or responsibilities are poorly documented. That can leave stale accounts, inconsistent MFA use, and unpatched assets behind. Defenders reduce this risk with clear role definitions, least-privilege access, automation for account lifecycle management, and repeatable incident procedures. Stable staffing improves detection, response, and the handoff of critical knowledge.
