The pre-answer call flow is the sequence of actions a calling system performs before the recipient accepts or declines an incoming call. It may include ringing, caller identification, contact lookup, notification handling, media setup, and background state changes in the app or operating system.
This stage matters because it sits before an explicit user decision, so it becomes a sensitive trust boundary. If code in the pre-answer path handles untrusted data incorrectly, attackers may trigger privileged logic without a tap or answer. In real attacks, that can turn a simple incoming call into a zero-click entry point for account takeover, message exposure, or worm-like spread through trusted contacts. Defenders should keep pre-answer processing minimal, validate caller and session data server-side, and avoid performing high-risk actions until after user approval.
