Post-sale service is the support a vendor provides after a purchase, such as maintenance, spare parts, warranty handling, troubleshooting, and repair channels. In cyber security, it matters because these services often run through web portals, help desks, ticketing systems, and device-management tools that hold customer data and product details.
Attackers can abuse weak post-sale systems by creating fake support pages, phishing users who need repairs, or tampering with service workflows to push malicious updates, parts, or instructions. Defenders reduce this risk with authenticated service portals, strong account controls, signed firmware or software updates, verified repair requests, and clear separation between customer support and privileged maintenance access. Good post-sale service is therefore both a customer feature and a security control.
