A point-of-sale (POS) integration connects a sales or payment system with other business software, such as an online ordering platform, inventory system, or customer-management service. It can synchronize orders, product availability, prices, and transaction details so businesses do not have to manage each workflow separately.
These links matter in cyber security because they create trust boundaries between systems and organizations. If an integration account, API key, or connected service is compromised or overly privileged, an attacker may be able to access data or disrupt workflows beyond a single storefront. Defenders should limit integration permissions, protect and rotate credentials, monitor data exchanges, and review access when partners or services change. A POS connection can expand operational risk, but its presence alone is not evidence of a breach.
