Polls

interactive prompts that let users choose among preset options.

Polls are interactive prompts that ask users to pick one option, or one from a short list of preset answers. In online platforms, they turn a comment thread or post into a lightweight voting system instead of a purely text-based conversation.

In cybersecurity, polls matter because they create structured input that can be abused or defended at scale. Attackers may use them for spam, social engineering, or engagement manipulation, for example by steering users toward malicious links or fake consensus. Poll results can also be scraped, automated, or flooded with bots to distort visibility. Defenders treat polls as a trust-and-safety surface: they may rate-limit voting, verify accounts, inspect abnormal vote patterns, and review prompt content for abuse. Even simple interaction widgets can become security-relevant when they influence user behavior, platform reputation, or moderation workload.
