Platform Updates

Updates that refresh core product components, often on a slower release cadence than signatures.

Platform updates are packages that refresh the core components of a security product, such as its engine, service framework, or supporting modules. Unlike signature or intelligence updates, which may arrive many times a day, platform updates often follow a slower release cadence because they usually change more fundamental parts of the software.

They matter because the platform controls how protection works, not just what threats are recognized. A device can still show an active antivirus service while its platform version is outdated, which may leave known bugs, stability issues, or detection gaps in place. In real attacks, an adversary or local interference may try to block the update path so the product falls behind. Defenders should monitor platform version, update success, and fallback delivery routes, not just whether the agent is running.
