Physical intelligence

AI systems that combine sensing, decision-making, and action in the physical world.

Physical intelligence is AI that combines sensing, decision-making, and action in the real world. In robotics and industrial automation, that means a system can read cameras, lidar, force sensors, or production data, decide what to do, and move motors, grippers, or vehicles in real time. Unlike a pure software model, its outputs become physical effects, so errors can cause collisions, damaged goods, downtime, or injury.

In cyber security, physical intelligence matters because it expands the attack surface from code to sensors, controllers, and safety logic. Attackers may spoof vision inputs, tamper with calibration data, change control settings, or exploit remote access to alter motion paths or stop conditions. Defenders protect these systems with network segmentation, strong authentication, signed updates, change control, anomaly detection, and safety interlocks that fail safe when behavior looks wrong. In practice, trustworthy physical intelligence must be treated as a safety-critical cyber-physical system, not just a smarter robot.
