PET stands for polyethylene terephthalate, a durable plastic commonly used in beverage bottles, food containers, and packaging films. It is lightweight, recyclable, and widely manufactured, which makes it one of the most familiar plastics in consumer and industrial supply chains.
In cyber security, PET matters as part of the physical environment around systems, not as a digital control. Secure facilities, hardware shipments, and evidence handling often depend on plastic containers, seals, labels, and packaging that can be traced or tamper-checked. Attackers may abuse weak physical controls by replacing, opening, or contaminating packaged hardware and media during transport. Defenders reduce that risk with sealed packaging, chain-of-custody procedures, and inspection for signs of tampering or substitution.
