Performance cycle

The full run of action a device completes before stopping or repeating.

A performance cycle is the full run of actions a device completes before it stops, resets, or repeats. In a simple mechanism, that may be one movement sequence; in software, it can mean one execution loop, task pass, or sensor routine. The idea is useful because it describes the unit of behavior you can observe, measure, and interrupt.

In cyber security, performance cycles matter when defenders analyze how often a process runs, how long it stays active, and when it repeats. Malware may use short cycles to avoid detection, trigger actions at intervals, or wait for conditions before acting again. Defenders look at these cycles in logs, process traces, and device telemetry to spot unusual timing, loops, or repeated behavior that signals automation, persistence, or abuse. Understanding the cycle helps distinguish normal operation from suspicious repetition.
