A perception-action loop is the control cycle used by agents and automated systems: observe the current state, decide on a response, then execute an action and observe the result. In cyber security, this pattern matters whenever a model, bot, or workflow is allowed to interact with external systems instead of only generating text.
Security risks appear when untrusted content enters the observation step. A malicious page, email, or document can influence the model’s decision, which is why prompt injection is so effective in agent-like setups. Defenders reduce risk by limiting the action space, separating instructions from observations, validating outputs before execution, and requiring human approval for sensitive actions. The same loop also helps defenders build monitoring and response tools that can react quickly, but only if the trust boundaries are tightly controlled.
