PDTA

the structured clinical pathway that guides diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.

PDTA stands for Percorso Diagnostico Terapeutico Assistenziale, a structured clinical pathway that defines how a patient should be assessed, diagnosed, treated, and followed up. In practice, it standardizes who does what, in what order, and with which clinical documents or systems.

In cyber security, PDTA matters because it shapes healthcare data flows and operational permissions. A digital pathway often depends on appointment systems, electronic records, referral tools, and remote-care platforms. If the pathway is poorly integrated, attackers can exploit confusion, missing records, or inconsistent access controls; if it is well designed, defenders can use it to enforce least privilege, traceability, and safer handoffs between services. For telemedicine, PDTA helps ensure remote visits are not isolated events but part of a controlled and auditable care process.
