Packet rate is the number of control packets sent per second across a radio link. In drone and other wireless control systems, it determines how often the receiver gets updated commands from the transmitter. A higher packet rate usually reduces control latency and makes the link feel more responsive, while a lower rate can improve stability and range by leaving more time and airtime for each transmission.
Packet rate matters in security because wireless links have limited bandwidth and shared spectrum. If the rate is set too high for the signal conditions, the link can become fragile and lose packets under interference, jamming, or poor antenna placement. Attackers may target timing and congestion to disrupt control, while defenders tune packet rate to balance responsiveness, reliability, and RF margin. Monitoring packet timing also helps spot abnormal loss or delay patterns that suggest interference or an unstable setup.
