An Open Graph image is the preview image a site advertises through metadata so social platforms, chat apps, and messaging clients can show a rich link card. It is usually attached to a page with tags such as og:image, and may be a static file or generated dynamically by the application.
In cyber security, OG images matter because they are often built by server-side rendering code that processes page data, titles, and styles. If that pipeline accepts unsafe input, an attacker may be able to influence markup generation, trigger injection bugs, or abuse the rendering path as a code-execution surface. Defenders should treat dynamic preview-image routes like other public-facing features: sanitize inputs, restrict templates, and keep framework components patched. Even a branding feature can become a security boundary when it runs on the server.
