OASIS stands for Open Automated Security Initiative for Software. It is an OWASP program that uses AI to draft candidate patches for software vulnerabilities, then requires human AppSec reviewers to validate the fix before it is accepted. In other words, OASIS is a remediation workflow, not just a code-generation tool.
This matters because security patches must do more than “look right.” A machine-generated fix can miss an adjacent vulnerable path, change application behavior, or introduce a new bug. Human review helps confirm that the patch really closes the weakness, preserves expected functionality, and is safe to test and deploy. In practice, OASIS represents a defensive use of AI: speeding up the first draft of a fix while keeping trust and correctness under human control. That balance is important in open-source security, where delayed remediation can leave many downstream users exposed.
