Nervous system

the network of cells that coordinates signals and behavior.

The nervous system is the network of cells that coordinates signals and behavior in an organism. It includes the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves, which pass electrical and chemical messages to control movement, sensation, memory, and reflexes. This signaling network depends on timing, connectivity, and integrity: if signals are blocked, delayed, or distorted, behavior and function change.

In cyber security, the term matters most in medical and biosecurity settings. Connected neurostimulation devices, sensors, and diagnostic platforms can expose nervous-system data or influence how that data is interpreted. Attackers may try to tamper with readings, intercept sensitive patient information, or disrupt device operation; defenders focus on authentication, encryption, access control, and monitoring for abnormal commands or data patterns. The nervous system is also a useful analogy for security teams: a complex environment needs reliable signal flow, fast response, and clear separation between trusted and untrusted inputs.
