MySQL profile

A cPanel setting that controls how database connections are handled.

A MySQL profile is a cPanel setting that defines how the panel connects to MySQL or MariaDB for an account. It controls the connection behavior used by hosting tools, such as which database service is reached and what level of access the panel assumes when managing databases. In practice, it sits between a tenant’s self-service actions and the backend database service.

This matters because a loose or broken profile can turn a routine hosting feature into a privilege boundary problem. If the profile grants more authority than intended, an authenticated user may be able to reach administrative database functions instead of only their own databases. Defenders should treat MySQL profile settings as sensitive control-plane configuration: review them for least privilege, disable database features that are not needed, and patch cPanel promptly. In attacks, abuse of these settings often looks like valid-log-in activity that unexpectedly reaches powerful SQL operations.
