Multi-model database

A database that supports more than one data model, such as document and relational-style data, within the same platform.

A multi-model database is a data platform that can store and query more than one data model in the same system, such as document, key-value, graph, or relational-style data. In practice, this lets applications keep mixed data types together and use one engine for multiple workloads.

In cyber security, multi-model databases matter because they often sit close to sensitive business logic, identity data, search indexes, and application content. That makes them high-value targets: a flaw in authentication, query processing, or access control can expose several data types at once. Defenders need to patch these platforms quickly, restrict administrative access, and enforce role-based permissions, transport encryption, and encryption at rest. Attackers may try to abuse weak queries, injection paths, or misconfigured permissions to move from one data model to another and reach more data than intended.
