Monopedal robot

a robot that moves using a single leg or leg-like support.

A monopedal robot is a machine that moves with a single leg or leg-like support, usually by hopping or compressing and rebounding from the ground. Compared with wheeled or multi-legged robots, it has fewer contact points, so balance, landing control, and energy recovery are central design problems. A compliant foot or suspension element is often used to absorb impact and keep the body stable during each hop.

In cyber security, monopedal robots matter because they are cyber-physical systems: their motion depends on software, sensors, radio links, and firmware as much as on mechanics. That creates familiar attack surfaces such as command spoofing, telemetry tampering, sensor deception, and denial of service on the control channel. Defenders reduce risk with authenticated control, encrypted communications, input validation, safe failsafes, and network segmentation. In robotics and red-team testing, a monopedal platform can also help evaluate how well a system handles rough terrain, unstable footing, and recovery after a disturbed landing.
